Addiction Recovery Can Start Today

At Stages of Recovery, we enable our clients to embark on a life of recovery by providing comprehensive addiction treatment plans that support lasting sobriety and personal growth at a reasonable price. Our long-term drug and alcohol rehab in Waco creates a sturdy foundation for clients to build healthy habits and live clean lives.

Stages of Recovery is a dual-diagnosis substance abuse treatment center offering a full continuum of care. Our recommended phased approach to addiction treatment slowly integrates our clients back into their normal lives, all while offering extensive support along the way.

We believe a phased approach to addiction treatment creates the best outcomes. Addiction cannot be cured and there is no single treatment to “fix” someone. Like other chronic conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or hypertension, addiction recovery often requires continued support and treatment, which is why long-term treatment models often produce the highest success rates.

However, unlike many chronic conditions, it’s possible to achieve highly rewarding and symptom-free recovery. By addressing the underlying causes of addiction and gaining new coping skills, thousands of people learn to live drug and alcohol-free every year. Recovery is possible and we’re here to help!

By combining evidence-based therapies, peer support, and 12-step integration, Stages of Recovery develops personalized treatment plans to help you or a loved one overcome addiction.

The First Step: A Drug and Alcohol Detox Center in Waco, TX

Successful addiction treatment typically has two components: physical treatment and psychological treatment. Before a person can begin to address the underlying causes of addiction, their body must first be rid of their physical dependency. This process is known as detoxification.

Many substances can cause extremely uncomfortable and even dangerous withdrawal symptoms. This is a major reason why so many people struggle to break the cycle of addiction. Prior to rehabilitation, most individuals enter a specialized detox center to initiate this process.

A detox center is an inpatient medical facility that specializes in the management of drug and alcohol withdrawal. By using a variety of medications, an individual can be safely and comfortably detoxed from their chemical dependency, whether it is alcohol, opiates, or prescription medications.

Some rehabs have their own detox units while others utilize separate facilities. Stages of Recovery specializes in the psychological and behavioral components of addiction, so we do not have a detox unit onsite. However, many of our clients first complete a detox program prior to admitting to our program. We work with local detox centers in Waco to provide this service, so never hesitate to reach out. We can help recommend a level of care for you or a loved one.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Rebuild your life while recovering in a supportive environment. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) allows clients to practice the principles of recovery in a setting with fewer restrictions than PHP.

IOP is a step down from PHP on our continuum of care, and it helps clients recover while reintegrating into their community. IOPs are group therapy sessions held in three-hour blocks, 3-5 times per week. As with PHP, combining transitional housing with IOP contributes to lasting recovery. Call us today to learn more about our IOP program in Waco, Texas.

Fortunately, most insurance plans cover detox when it is medically appropriate. Drug and alcohol withdrawal can be extremely dangerous, so you should never attempt to quit “cold turkey” or detox on your own.

Not all substances require detox, but generally, detox is required for:

  • Alcohol
  • Heroin and fentanyl
  • Benzos, such as Xanax, Ativan, and Klonopin
  • Prescription opioids, such as OxyContin, Percocet, and Suboxone
  • Sleep medication, such as Ambien

Some detox centers can also assist with stimulants, like Adderall or methamphetamine. That said, stimulants do not produce physical withdrawal symptoms like the substances listed above. Whether or not detox would be medically appropriate would be determined on an individual basis by the medical staff and your insurance provider.

Most inpatient detox programs are 5-14 days. Once a client is medically cleared, they would be transferred to Stages of Recovery to begin rehabilitation.

What The Drug and Alcohol Rehab is Like at Stages of Recovery Waco

Stages of Recovery has two locations in Texas. In Waco, we provide what is called a partial hospitalization program for men, also known as PHP. Unlike residential rehab, in PHP, clients either return home or to a sober living home for the evening. That said, the structure and treatment plans emulate the same type of care found in residential rehab, but at a significantly more affordable cost. We believe quality addiction treatment should be accessible to all and find the PHP model to produce highly successful outcomes, especially when paired with a transitional living home. PHP is also more likely to be covered by your health insurance plan compared to inpatient residential treatment.

In PHP rehab, clients engage in individual therapy and group therapy for six hours per day for 14-28 days. During this time, clients receive comprehensive evidence-based therapies designed to address the underlying causes of substance abuse, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and trauma therapies.

It’s estimated that more than 50% of individuals with a substance use disorder also suffer from a co-occurring mental health condition, such as trauma, depression, or anxiety. For that reason, our program also emphasizes the importance of uncovering and treating the psychiatric needs of our clients.

Clients will also learn life skills and engage in peer support, 12-step programming, and holistic therapies. After rehabilitation in PHP, clients move on to the next phase of our continuum of care: intensive outpatient.

Aftercare: Continued Outpatient Addiction Counseling in Waco

Receive long-term support for your recovery journey. Our Outpatient Program (OP) is a step down from IOP and provides continued addiction treatment to clients who are reintegrating into their lives. Outpatient aftercare typically consists of 1-hour addiction counseling sessions on an individualized cadence. During PHP and IOP, clients work with their primary therapist to develop an aftercare plan.

Continued addiction counseling enables clients to continue practicing the tools they learned in rehab while retaining a level of support and accountability. Because the first year of sobriety is often considered the most critical, many clients choose to continue outpatient sessions for their first year of recovery.

Men’s Sober Living in Waco, TX

Sober Living, also known as transitional housing, is highly encouraged to all of our clients. Whether in PHP or outpatient rehab, sober living provides the accountability, support, and structure that are conducive to recovery.

Returning home during treatment can sometimes result in unexpected triggers or temptations. Many people find the environment of sober living helps them focus more intently on their recovery.

Our transitional living complex, The Door Sober Living Community, provides men in Waco access to the support they need for successful addiction recovery. We have six two-bedroom, two-bathroom, fully furnished apartments that provide men with a safe environment to rediscover a sober and productive life. Located near I-35 and 16th Street in Waco, The Door Sober Living Community for men is less than a five-minute drive from Baylor University.
